N.001-030-2024/2ENV: Environmental Subservices for Upgrade from Single to Dual Carriageway on National Route 1 Section 3 between Hex River Pass (Km 47.00) and Touws River (Km 74.30)

Key Project
The project is located on National Route 1 Section 3 between Hex River Pass (Km 47.00) and Touws River (Km 74.30) in the Western Cape Province (Total Length = 27.30 km). The site of the project is located within the Breede Valley Local Municipality in the Cape Winelands District Municipality. The project involves upgrading the existing road from km 47.00 to km 74.30 to a 4-lane divided dual carriageway, with a 4-lane dual section between km 47.00 and km 49.00 and a 2-lane single carriageway with climbing lanes from km 49.00 to km 50.00. Located predominantly in a rural setting, with the final section passing through Touwsrivier, the design will use a split-level freeway approach to minimize earthworks. The new southbound carriageway will be constructed alongside the existing road, after which traffic will be shifted to allow reconstruction of the northbound carriageway. The upgraded cross-section includes 10.9 m carriageway width, two 3.7 m lanes, 2.5 m outer and 1 m inner shoulders, and a variable median. Works include widening and reconstructing three river bridges, nine major culverts, and several minor culverts, potential horizontal realignments, opening and re-entry of three borrow pits, stockpiling, vegetation clearance, and limited land acquisition primarily for the southbound carriageway. Existing at-grade intersections will remain unchanged. Services Offered: Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment, Water Use Licence Application & Environmental Control Officer

N.011-130-2012/2 ENV: Environmental Subservices for the National Route 11 Section 13x: Mokopane Ring Road (20.9 Km).

Key Project
The Proposed Development is located north of Mokopane within the Limpopo Province. The extent of the project is located within the Waterberg District Municipality (WDM) and the Mogalekwena Local Municipality (MLM). The N11-13X Mokopane Ring Road is a 21.219 km greenfield project proposing a Class 1A Primary Freeway in a rural area, featuring a four-lane undivided carriageway with 2.5 m shoulders and a 2 m paved median. The development includes the construction and extension of road structures, such as bridges and major culverts, as well as the establishment and expansion of borrow pits. While an Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the road was obtained in 2009 and remains valid, a new EA is required for infilling activities related to sensitive areas and watercourses associated with new bridges and culverts. Key works involve extending one existing culvert, constructing twelve new major culverts, building two new bridges (including one over the Rooisloot River), developing a new 31.7 ha borrow pit, and extending an existing 2.23 ha borrow pit. Services Offered: Basic Assessment, Water Use Licence Application & Environmental Control Officer

N.002-250-2019/1ENV: Environmental Subservices for the Upgrading of the Higginson Highway Interchange on National Route 2 Section 25, Km 6.3 (Phase 1)

Key Project
The project is located on Higginson Highway (M1) which forms a grade separated interchange with the N2 at km 6.3 at Mobeni Heights, in eThekwini in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province. The proposed development comprises a comprehensive upgrade of the interchange to improve traffic flow, safety, and long-term infrastructure performance while minimizing disruption. Key interventions include the construction of a new directional flyover (Ramp CA) connecting the N2 southbound to the M1 westbound, three new underpass bridges at Mobeni Heights, and structural rehabilitation of the Higginson Highway Bridge. Drainage improvements involve constructing new culverts, extending and rehabilitating existing culverts, and partially decommissioning one culvert to accommodate new bridge foundations. Retaining walls, including Mechanically Stabilised Earth, soil nail, and reinforced concrete walls, will be installed at strategic locations due to constrained geometry. Overall, the project integrates new bridges, culverts, and retaining structures to enhance connectivity, durability, and safety with minimal impact on the surrounding infrastructure. Services Offered: Basic Assessment, Water Use Licence Application & Environmental Control Officer
