The project is located on Higginson Highway (M1) which forms a grade separated interchange with the N2 at km 6.3 at Mobeni Heights, in eThekwini in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province.

The proposed development comprises a comprehensive upgrade of the interchange to improve traffic flow, safety, and long-term infrastructure performance while minimizing disruption. Key interventions include the construction of a new directional flyover (Ramp CA) connecting the N2 southbound to the M1 westbound, three new underpass bridges at Mobeni Heights, and structural rehabilitation of the Higginson Highway Bridge. Drainage improvements involve constructing new culverts, extending and rehabilitating existing culverts, and partially decommissioning one culvert to accommodate new bridge foundations. Retaining walls, including Mechanically Stabilised Earth, soil nail, and reinforced concrete walls, will be installed at strategic locations due to constrained geometry. Overall, the project integrates new bridges, culverts, and retaining structures to enhance connectivity, durability, and safety with minimal impact on the surrounding infrastructure.
